Regional councils

The western New York regional council also meets tonight to discuss its draft plan (AP).

The Southern Tier economic council released a presentation summarizing its draft regional plan (thanks to Gannett's Jon Campbell for putting it on Scribd) - and it doesn't include drilling as a major component (Steve Reilly, Press & Sun-Bulletin).

Fracking

Syracuse's common council has banned fracking within the city's borders; council majority leader Kathleen Joy appeared on Capital Tonight to discuss the ban (Maureen McManus, State of Politics/Capital Tonight).

A new app for the iPhone, called RigData, tells you the status of drilling operations (Susan Phillips, State Impact PA).

Government

Cash is king when it comes to shepherding development projects in the Albany area (Brendan J. Lyons, Times Union).

New York State Public Radio's Karen DeWitt talked with SUNY board chair Carl McCall about the university system's roll in economic development.

Business

Crystal-maker Steuben Glass is shutting down at the end of November, following Corning's divestment of it in 2008 (Ben Dobbin, AP).

The Voice of the Voter poll, administered in partnership with Innovation Trail station WXXI, finds that there's been an incremental increase in support for sales of wine in grocery stores (Tom Tobin, Democrat and Chronicle).

Syracuse's common council said yes to bringing in a private firm to do security at the airport, for a purported savings of $2 million a year (Tim Knauss, Post-Standard).

Rochester-area inventors are bringing home lots of patents for work on RFID - the technology that makes your E-ZPass work (Sean Lahma, Democrat and Chronicle).
