Today in your Trail Mix:

National media attention for the ailing photography pioneer.

Manufacturing jobs both coming and going.

Syracuse landlords facing bed bug problems.

And algae, algae everywhere.

Kodak

Rochesterians are holding tough in the face of Kodak uncertainty (Clare Baldwin, Reuters).

Kodak is ditching its silver business (AP).

A native Rochesterian writes, "Kodak and Rochester's long battle with the metastasizing cancer of modernity appears to be reaching its natural conclusion" (Philip Bump, Mediaite) (emphasis added).

Manufacturing

Factory jobs are down across New York state (Buffalo Business First).

Manufacturing jobs in Rochester are down a smidge more than the state average (Dan Smith, YNN).

Ford is adding manufacturing jobs in WNY - and Senator Chuck Schumer is heralding the $136 million investment (WNED News).

Bed bugs

Start scratching: Syracuse is having bed bug problems (Ellen Abbott, WRVO News).

Algae

Algae is a growing problem for Lake Erie. Environmentalists say it's setting back years of work to clean up industrial pollutants (Jerry Zremski, Buffalo News).

Owasco Lake is also having problems: algae, weeds and invasive clams (oh, my!). To fix it, Cayuga County plans to lower the water level in an effort to freeze 'em out (Justin Murphy, Auburn Citizen).
