Binghamton was the latest stop on the Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC) hearings around the state about hydrofracking - a controversial drilling technique that pumps water, sand and chemicals into the ground to extract natural gas.
As the Innovation Trail's Matt Richmond reported, there is no shortage of passion in the war of words between the people who believe hydrofracking will bring economic prosperity, and those who say it spells environmental calamity.
Tune in to New York NOW on your PBS station this weekend (check local listings) for more on the hearings.
Here is some of what was said last night:
The DEC is holding two more public hearings at the end of the month:
- Nov. 29: Sullivan County Community College, Seelig Theatre, 112 College Rd, Loch Sheldrake, N.Y.
