Both sides in the long-running battle over a proposed gas storage facility next to Seneca Lake are looking to move on to the next stage.

Houston-based Crestwood Midstream has submitted a construction plan to federal regulators. The company says they are waiting on approval of the construction plan from federal regulators before beginning work.

The Department of Environmental Conservation announced last week that it will hold an issues conference this fall to hear concerns from both sides before signing off on the project.

The group at the center of the opposition, Gas Free Seneca, organized a rally at the project site near Watkins Glen yesterday.

The group’s co-founder, Joseph Campbell, says they plan to increase pressure on the company.

"If Crestwood’s investors get a hint of the enormous public relations black eye that their corporation is getting, we believe that they will ask the board of directors of Crestwood to simply pull out," says Campbell.

The group is calling for acts of civil disobedience and say several opponents of the project have agreed to risk arrest to prevent Crestwood from beginning work.
