The Cuomo administration announced a slew of clean energy and environmental investments Thursday, including two new testing centers for solar and wind power in Cortland and Potsdam, respectively.
The centers will be run by Intertek, a global testing and consulting company.
Gil Quiniones, head of the New York Power Authority says the new testing centers are part of a $4.2 million award from the state's Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
"That means we will have the first in the East Coast solar testing laboratory, which will be located in Cortland, N.Y," Quiniones said.
A second center - for testing wind turbine blades - will be at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.
Three other universities - including the Rochester Institute of Technology, Binghamton University and Alfred State College - will join with Clarkson and Intertek to test and evaluate the clean energy equipment. Albany-based energy consulting firm AWS TruePower will also participate.
Other investments announced Thursday include $450 million for improving the energy efficiency of state buildings and $25 million in infrastructure upgrades to Niagara Falls State Park.
