This Good World is an app that will help you find value driven businesses and it was developed right here in Rochester.
The app launched last week from This Good World Studios - a brand development shop based in the city.
While the creators are not Rochester natives, founding partner Gavin Thomas said after a decade, Rochester is where they call home now.
Thomas said the idea for the app stemmed from personal frustrations when it comes to where to spend money.
"We really cared about the business we wanted to support, not just the clothing we bought or the food that we purchased at the grocery store, but really anybody that we interacted with at a transactional level."
Thomas said they were unable to find a comprehensive list of these businesses anywhere, so they decided to create their own.
"We knew that there were people out there who were doing really good things, whether they donated to environmental causes or they volunteered in community events or had a really cool workplace culture and did great things for their employees."
Users can search for businesses through a filter of causes or values such as women owned businesses, locally sourced products or environmental impacts.
Thomas said he has noticed a trend of consumers caring more about the businesses they shop at and wanting to use their purchases to make a statement.
Many of the businesses are added from user feedback or research done by the five-person team, This Good World is now available in Rochester and 15 other cities.
