A national initiative that focuses on teaching girls basic computer programming skills will be available locally next month.
Girls Who Code will begin an eight-week series for girls and young women in sixth through 12th grades from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Gates Public Library meeting room, 902 Elmgrove Road.
No computer science experience is needed to take part in the free series. During the programs, participants will develop skills that could help qualify them for jobs in information technology, computer science and science fields.
Participants will learn the Core4 computer science concepts that form the basis for all computer programming languages, according to organizers.
