The casino being planned for the Finger Lakes is getting a slight name change.
Instead of being called Lago Resort & Casino, the operators say it will now be called del Lago Resort & Casino. “Del Lago” means "of the lake," and the company says it reflects the idea that the resort will serve as a gateway to the Finger Lakes.
The news about the name change came during the same week that casino operators heard that a state appellate court denied a preliminary injunction to block construction of that casino in the town of Tyre, Seneca County.
Some residents in that area have opposed the casino because of concerns of its impact on traffic, noise and other parts of the local environment. The Oneida Indian Nation, which operates Turning Stone Resort Casino in central New York, also has opposed the casino.
Among the principals in the new casino is Rochester businessman Tom Wilmot. Executives with del Lago say they expect the casino to open in February.
