On the upside, the power outages are apparently causing consternation amongst political pollsters trying to regain some momentum in their respective presidential campaigns. (NPR.org)

The Red Cross is encouraging people to reassure your family and friends that you're safe.

The storm is heading inland and powering down steadily over the next 48 hours, and the National Hurricane Center is now officially calling Sandy a post-tropical cyclone. Folks in West Virginia's altitudes are copping an early downfall of snow. We'll continue coverage throughout today and the week.

I guess this is ironic: The Buffalo News wonderswhether the Great Lakes are ever going to be a site for wind energy.

This report from Research America says that Research and Development spending in biomedicine and health declined by $4 billion in 2011 (around 3%), mainly due to sequestration and say that the next step, possibly in January 2013 would see that figure rise to 8-10%.
