More losses for Kodak.

Flooding

Tune into New York NOW this weekend for an update on the cost of flooding to New York.  In the meantime, you can see how one Prattsville family's life was torn apart by flooding there in this audio slideshow (Marie Cusick, Innovation Trail).

The Southern Tier communities of Endicott and Owego will get at least a million dollar loan from the state to repair flood-damaged facilities, along with seven other communities (Jon Campbell, Gannett).

It's official: government contractor BAE Systems is keeping the candidates in its search for a facility - not vulnerable to flooding - "secret" (My-Ly Nguyen, Press & Sun-Bulletin).

Energy

Assembly minority leader Brian Kolb wants a "buffer zone" around the Finger Lakes, to protect them from pollution as a result of hydrofracking - but that doesn't mean he doesn't support drilling (Jon Campbell, Gannett).

Landowners in the Town of Maine have received more than $3 million from gas driller Inflection Energy to lock into leases without the ability to terminate. (Steve Reilly, Press & Sun-Bulletin).

Cooperstown-area businesses like cheese and winemakers are pushing back against fracking, arguing that it could damage their livelihoods (Maria Scaralone, WNYC).

The EPA says it will study drilling in five states, including Pennsylvania, with results expected in 2012, to see how fracking affects drinking water (Michael Rubinkam, AP).

The gas industry wants the EPA to abandon the plan though, claiming the water samples its using weren't collected properly (Shifra Mincer, AOL Energy).

A clean-up at a nuclear lab near Albany is delayed because of the hurricane season - it won't meet a December deadline (Brian Nearing, Times Union).

Business

Kodak posted double the losses of what it was expecting yesterday (Zack Seward, Innovation Trail).

Kodak brass is trying to put on a brave face, but a report like yesterday's could signal the beginning of the end for the firm, according to one analyst (Matthew Daneman, Democrat and Chronicle).

Forklift fuel cell maker Plug Power posted a $6.3 million loss in the third quarter (Larry Rulison, Times Union).

Governor Cuomo still doesn't support the sale of wine in grocery stores (Joseph Spector, Politics on the Hudson).

Yogurt company Chobani, which is expanding a facility in New York, is planning to build another plant in Idaho because of its "abundant milk supply" (Traci DeLore, Greater Binghamton Business Journal).

The Rochester Institute of Technology's campus is now on Google Street View (News 10 NBC).

Economy

Capital Tonight has video of pollster Lee Miringoff talking about how people aren't optimistic about their economic future (Maureen McManus, State of Politics).

NPR Planet Money reporter Adam Davidson is getting an economics column in the New York Times.
