Pa. landowners pledge suit unless drill ban lifted

A landowners' group in northeastern Pennsylvania is threatening to sue the Delaware River Basin Commission unless it lifts a moratorium on gas drilling.

The Northern Wayne Property Owners Alliance says in a letter to the commission's executive director that it will sue unless the agency either schedules a vote on regulations that would allow drilling to begin, or steps aside and drops any plan to regulate the practice.

The commission monitors the water supply of more than 15 million people, including Philadelphia and half the population of New York City. It has banned Marcellus Shale drilling in the four-state basin until it approves rules governing the process.

The landowners' group says it's in jeopardy of losing its lease with two gas companies unless the regulatory agency drops the ban.
